Malinowski had a  2-2 record on the mound during his varsity debut season of 1959. The next year he had an 8-2 record and was selected first team All New England, a NCAA District One All Star, named to 1960 All American Baseball Team, and was selected to the Third Team by the American Association of College Baseball Coaches. During that season, he pitched a no-hitter against BC and led the team to the NCAA playoffs. After graduation from Holy Cross, he played in the Minnesota Twins and the Detroit Tigers systems, and attended graduate school at the University of Chicago.
