A three-sport athlete at Holy Cross, Cavalieri was also a pitcher on the baseball team and participated in track and field.  Following his career on Mount St. James, he went on to coach at both Johnson High School in North Andover, Mass. and Arlington High School, and he also entered teaching.  He was inducted into the Massachusetts Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 1980.
