Long maintained and cared for the College's athletic fields for more than 30 years as the superintendent of grounds.  In addition to the visible excellence of the football fields, Long's efforts resulted in new dugouts, a scoreboard, outfield fencing and several new playing fields in the area of the Hart Recreational Center. Always willing to share his knowledge and talents with the "competition", Long had more than a dozen articles published in professional magazines dealing with grounds management and equipment.  His efforts have resulted in numerous regional and national awards including eight of which specifically recognized the excellence of our varsity athletic fields.
