Biography
Stewart was a four year starter in goal and a captain of the 1979 Crusader hockey team. In the 1977-78 season, Stewart made First Team Titan All American, First Team All East and First Team All-New England (hockey writers). That season was Holy Cross hockey's first trip to the ECAC playoffs. He finished that season with an incredible .914 save percentage, then a school record. For his Crusader career he made 1,823 saves, and had a .893 save percentage. Stewart signed an NHL contract with the Boston Bruins and played in their minor league system. On January 10, 1980 Jim made his NHL debut vs. the St. Louis Blues at the Boston Garden. After his pro career, Jim rejoined his college coach, Mike Addesa, as an assistant hockey coach at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. In 1985, RPI won the Division I ECAC and NCAA titles. He later returned to Holy Cross as an assistant coach.
