Biography
Hughes became an immediate
factor on the Crusader tennis team as a sophomore, winning 11-of-12
matches, and teaming with classmate John Mayotte to compile a
7-0 record in doubles including the Western New England Doubles
Championship. As a junior, he led Holy Cross to an 11-2
record and fourth place finish in the New England Tournament while
he and Mayotte were runners-up in the New England Double
Championship.
In his senior year, Hughes was unbeaten, and the team
compiled a 13-0 record and was ranked #1 in New England. It marked
the first unbeaten season in Holy Cross tennis history. Jughes lost
only one singles match during his varsity career and played on
teams which compiled a 35-4 record overall including a streak of 21
consecutive victories.
