Biography
A native of Natick, Mass., Mahoney
excelled in track. He ran on the unbeaten freshman mile relay
team in his first year and was a member of the team that set a
world record at 1280 yards when he was a sophomore. Joe Higgins,
Andy Kelly, both Hall of Fame members, and Jack Dunphy were the
other runners. This same team also set a new Class B record at the
Penn Relays.
Three times Mahoney was a member of a team that beat Boston
College and he also won the Connecticut 440-yard championship. In
1918 he won the New England 440-yard championship, the same year
that he was captain of the track
team.
