Biography
Heaphy was a three-year starter for
the Holy Cross lacrosse team, and a co-captain his senior year. As
a sophomore, he recorded 23 goals and 17 assists in helping
the team to a 6-3 record. It was in his junior year that
Bill’s scoring prowess came to the fore. In amassing 40 goals
over the season, he led the team to a 5-4 record, and scored 7 or
more goals in three consecutive games. At the conclusion of the
season, his 40 goals total ranked him fourth in the nation in
scoring and first in the nation in average goals per game. As a
result, Heaphy was chosen All-New England and Honorable
Mention All-American.
At the conclusion of his senior year, he was again chosen
All-New England and Honorable Mention All-American. His performance
was recognized at the national level and he was selected to play in
the twentieth North-South All-Star game. Competing with and against
the elite of the nation's lacrosse players, Heaphy contributed a
goal for the North squad in a hotly contested 12-9 loss to the
South.
