Current Student-Athletes
A student-athlete is a student who was recruited by a member of the athletics staff with the ultimate goal of the student's participation in intercollegiate athletics. Any other student becomes a student-athlete when he or she reports for any varsity team. A student is not deemed a student-athlete solely on the basis of prior high school athletics participation.
Agents
An individual shall be ineligible for participation in an
intercollegiate sport if he or she ever has agreed (orally or in
writing) to be represented by an agent for the purpose of marketing
his or her athletics ability or reputation in that sport. Further,
an agency contract not specifically limited in writing to a sport
or particular sports shall be deemed applicable to all sports, and
the individual shall be ineligible to participate in any
sport. For additional information, select the Agents link.
Drug Testing
Participants in all sports are subject to NCAA drug
testing, which occurs randomly on a year-round basis. NCAA
officials come to campus each year to conduct drug testing.
Selected student-athletes will be notified by an athletic
department staff member one to two days prior to the testing date.
The penalty for missing a scheduled drug test is the loss of one
season of competition in all sports. Learn more about NCAA
drug and alcohol policies by accessing the link above.
Employment/Private Lessons
Student-athletes may receive compensation only for work
actually performed and at a rate commensurate with the going rate
in that locality for similar services. Select this link to
obtain the Student-Athlete Employment and Private Lesson or
Fee-for-Lesson Instruction forms.
Extra Benefits
Student-athletes and their parents are prohibited from
receiving extra benefits from Holy Cross employees or
representatives of the College's athletics interests. Click on

benefits.
Gambling
The NCAA opposes all forms of legal and illegal sports
wagering involving college and professional sports. Sports wagering
has become a serious problem that threatens the well-being of the
student-athlete and the integrity of college sports. Any
student or group found to have engaged in or to have attempted to
engage in illegal gambling activities is subject to the
College’s disciplinary sanctions. To find out more about
gambling, select above link to the NCAA “Don’t Bet on
It” website.
Student-Athlete Handbook
The Student-Athlete Handbook provides NCAA and
institutional policies as outlined by the Holy Cross Department of
Athletics. It is extremely important for all current
student-athletes to understand and have strong familiarity with
this material.
