WORCESTER, Mass. – The College of the Holy Cross has named Shepard Allen as assistant strength and conditioning coach, it was announced by head strength and conditioning Jeff Oliver and athletic director Richard M. Regan, Jr. Allen will work with the Crusader men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s lacrosse, baseball, softball, field hockey, volleyball, women’s tennis, cross country and track & field teams.
Allen comes to Holy Cross from Valdosta State Univeristy, where he served as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach for the last two years. He worked with the women’s basketball, golf and football teams during his time at Valdosta State, with the football team winning the 2012 NCAA Division II national championship.
Allen was previously an intern strength and conditioning coach for the University of Iowa football team in the spring of 2011, and the Holy Cross athletic department in the spring and summer of 2010. He also spent time as an intern working at North Dakota State University and the Pomfret (Conn.) School.
A certified strength and conditioning coach with the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association, Allen was a 2012 recipient of the John Stucky Award for outstanding performance on the SCCC exam. He received his bachelor’s degree in applied exercise science from Springfield College in 2011, and his master’s degree in leadership in higher education administration from Valdosta State University in 2013.
