ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Holy Cross baseball team fell in its series finale against New Mexico, 7-2, on Sunday, Feb. 27 at Santa Ana Star Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- New Mexico secured a run in the first inning after capitalizing on a Holy Cross error.
- Freshman catcher Andrew Whinney led off the third with a single through the left side. After New Mexico conceded a walk and an error, freshman third baseman Nick Wang hit a sac fly to score Whinney, tying the game at 1-1.
- New Mexico quickly regained the lead in the bottom of the third, with a triple to center making it a 2-1 game.
- The Crusaders again tied things up in the top of the fourth, with freshman second baseman Connor Peek hitting an RBI single to score sophomore right fielder Jake McElroy.
- The Lobos hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the bottom half of the inning, building a 4-2 lead.
- Shane Podsednik hit a solo home run in the sixth to extend the New Mexico lead to 5-2.
- The Crusaders loaded up the bases in the top of the seventh, but could not scrape any runs across.
- A two-run homer for Lenny Junior Ashby extended the lead to 7-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
- Sophomore shortstop Sam Kirkpatrick extended his hitting streak to six games.
- Wang's double was his sixth of the season in eight games; he leads the Patriot League in that category.
DUE UP:
- Holy Cross kicks off its Spring Break trip with a three-game series at North Carolina A&T.
- The Crusaders will play a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on March 5 in Greensboro, N.C., and will play a single game at 1 p.m. on March 6.
