HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Junior starting pitcher Nate Chudy threw four innings of one-hit ball to open the game for Holy Cross, but Brown starter Bobby Olsen also matched his scoreless effort, as the game was knotted at 0-0 midway through the fifth inning.
- Brown finally broke through in the bottom of the fifth, scoring a pair of runs on a single and double to take a 2-0 lead.
- The Crusaders earned a run back in the top of the sixth; freshman third baseman Nick Wang and sophomore second baseman Sam Kirkpatrick led off the frame with back-to-back singles and moved to second and third on a sacrifice bunt. Wang came around to score on a groundout, cutting the Bears' advantage to 2-1.
- Brown took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth after Gunner Boree doubled to score a run, but he was thrown out after trying to stretch that into a triple.
- Holy Cross rallied in the top of the seventh, with freshman center fielder Connor Cooney and senior catcher Angelo D'Acunto both singling to open the frame. Cooney stole third and came around to score on a throwing error by the Bears' catcher; a single from Wang moved D'Acunto to third, and he later came around to score on a wild pitch to tie up the game at 3-3. Kirkpatrick then doubled home Wang, giving the Crusaders a 4-3 lead.
- Brown hit three straight singles to even the game up at 4-4 in the bottom of the eighth. With two runners on and just one out, a ground ball was misplayed for an error, leading to two more runs for the Bears. A three-run homer then extended the lead to 9-4.
