Softball suffers road defeat to Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Holy Cross softball team was defeated 4-3 on Easter Sunday by Patriot League opponent Colgate at the Eaton Street Softball Complex.

The loss is the 26th of the season for the Crusaders while they still remain winless in league action. The Raiders move to 14-18, and 5-1 in the Patriot League
 
STARTING IN THE CIRCLE:
  • Bailey Misken: W, (6-7), complete game, six hits allowed, three earned runs, walk, five strikeouts.
  • Senior Peyton Morehouse: ND, 2.0 innings pitched, two hits allowed earned run, one walk.
IN RELIEF:
  • Junior Megan Yurchick: ND, 1.0 innings pitched, two hits allowed, two unearned runs, two walks.
  • Freshman Sophia Roncone: L, (2-14), 3.0 innings pitched, two hits allowed, earned run, four walks.
STEPPING TO THE PLATE:
  • Kara Fusco: 2-for-3, home run, RBI, two runs scored, walk.
  • Taylor Ludwick: 1-for-2, RBI, runs scored, walk.
  • Jillian Herbst: 1-for-3, RBI.
  • Megan Yurchick: 2-for-3.
  • Freshman Anna Brait: 2-for-2, RBI.
  • Junior Jessica Mott: 1-for-4, RBI, run scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • With two outs, Colgate took a 1-0 lead as Ludwick singled down the right field line to plate the first run of the ballgame in the bottom of the first.
  • The Crusaders tied the game in the top of the third as Mott singled through the right side for the RBI. A batter later, Brait flared an opposite field single to left to push the Crusaders in front 2-1. Mott dashed home from third base on a wild pitch to move the Crusaders ahead 3-1.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, Colgate tied the game with an RBI single and a bases loaded walk.
  • The hosts regained the lead as Fusco led off the bottom of the fifth smacking the first pitch she saw over the fence for the game-winning home run.
DUE UP:
  • The Crusaders return to Freshman Field on Tuesday, April 11 for a nonconference doubleheader against Brown.
  • First pitch is scheduled for 3 and 5 p.m.
