WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior outfielder Nick Ciardiello (Edison, N.J.) has been named the AT&T Crusader of the Week, for competition from March 21-27. Ciardiello hit .450 with three doubles and six runs batted in last week, as the Holy Cross baseball team posted a 3-2-1 record in six games.
During Wednesday's 3-2 victory over Boston College, Ciardiello went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in, while driving in the game-winning run with a single in the seventh inning. He was also 3-for-3 in the opening game of the Columbia series (a 4-3 Holy Cross win), and again had the game-winning hit with a sixth inning RBI single. Ciardeillo then notched his third game-winning RBI of the week in Sunday's 3-2 victory over Columbia with a two-run double in the fifth inning. He recorded at least one hit in each contest last week, and is currently riding a 17-game hitting steak.
Overall this season, Ciardiello is batting .350 with nine doubles, two home runs and a team-best 22 runs batted in. Over the course of his collegiate career, he now owns a .309 batting average with 37 doubles, 18 home runs and 109 runs batted in. He has tied the Holy Cross career record for runs batted in, and ranks third all-time in both doubles and home runs.
The Crusaders (10-10-1 overall) return to action on Tuesday, March 29, when they play host to Massachusetts at 4:00 p.m.
