WORCESTER, Mass. - Junior righthanded relief pitcher John Colella (Herndon, Va.) has been named the AT&T Crusader of the Week, for competition from March 19-25. Colella helped lead the Holy Cross baseball team to a 3-2 record in five games last week.
During Tuesday's 3-1 victory at Boston College, Colella threw two scoreless innings of relief to earn the save. He allowed two singles and one walk to the Eagles, while striking out four of the eight batters he faced. Then in Sunday's 5-3 win over Stony Brook, Collella earned the victory with 2-1/3 shutout innings to end the game. He retired all seven batters he faced against the Seawolves, striking out three.
On the season, Colella stands 3-1 with three saves and a 2.08 earned run average, while striking out 24 batters in 21-2/3 innings pitched. Over the course of his Holy Cross career, he now has a 6-5 record with 12 saves, a 4.24 earned run average and 77 strikeouts in 85 innings of work.
Holy Cross (10-9 overall) returns to action on Tuesday, March 27, when it travels to Massachusetts for a 3:00 p.m. game.
