WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross senior pitcher Tom Marra (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) was named Patriot League Pitcher of the Week for competition from April 8-14. The Crusaders had a 2-4 record during the week, but Marra's performance on Saturday, April 13 earned him the laurels. This is the first time he has been named Patriot League Pitcher of the Week in his career.
Marra pitched the series opener versus Navy on Saturday as he allowed only two hits and a pair of walks in the seven-inning complete game shutout. Marra also fanned nine batters en route to the Holy Cross, 3-0, victory over the Midshipmen. It was his second consecutive complete game shutout as he improves to 2-0 with a League-best 0.90 ERA in Patriot League games. In league games, Marra has struck out 21 batters in 20.0 innings pitched, while only allowing 11 hits.
For the season, Marra leads the Crusaders starting pitchers with a 4.58 ERA, as has a 2-3 record overall. He ranks second on the team with 39.1 innings pitched and fourth with 27 strikeouts this season. He is 10th in the Patriot League in ERA and is 18th in the conference in strikeouts.
The Crusaders are 16-20 overall this season and are first in the Patriot League standings with an 8-4 record. Holy Cross returns to action on Wednesday, April 17, when it will host Brown in a doubleheader at Fitton Field, with the first pitch slated for 4:30 p.m.
