WORCESTER, Mass. - Junior pitcher Donny Murray (Walpole, Mass.) and outfielder Evan Ocello (Camarillo, Calif.) were chosen by by Perfect Game as top prospects in their respective summer baseball leagues. Murray was selected as the 121st ranked prospect from the summer of 2013 in the Cape Cod Baseball League. Perfect Game placed Ocello 26th among players in the New England Collegiate Baseball League.
During the 2013 season Murray was rostered as a relief pitcher for the Falmouth Commodores. Murray pitched 22.0 innings over 14 games finishing the season with a 2.45 ERA. He struck out 19 batters while allowing only six earned runs on 17 hits. Over his last five appearances he pitched 5.0 consecutive scoreless innings. Murray pitched a collective scoreless 15.1 innings during 10 of his 14 appearances. On July 16 against the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox, Murray earned his only decision of the season with a 5-1 win. He picked up a save on July 30, against the Wareham Gatemen pitching two hitless, scoreless innings in a 2-1 victory. Murray finished with the second lowest ERA on the team among pitchers who pitched at least 20.0 innings. During the 2013 season, the Commodores tied for first in the regular season for the CCBL's West Division.
Playing for the Ocean State Waves, Ocello ranked second on the Waves and ninth in the league with a .331 batting average this summer. Ocello appeared in 39 games including two playoff games during the summer. He recorded 49 hits and 32 runs while bringing in 15 runs. His 16 stolen bases led the team and tied for ninth in the league. In his 49 hits, Ocello tallied four home runs and 10 doubles. He had at least one hit in 27 games, scored at least one run in 22 games and had at least one RBI in 11 games. Ocello tallied 15 multiple hit games and seven multiple run games throughout the summer. He finished the season with a .985 fielding percentage committing only one error.
