Baseball Has 10 Selections To Academic All-League Team
The Holy Cross baseball squad has placed 10 student-athletes on the 2008 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, as announced by league officials. Leading the Crusaders were senior pitcher Tim Thran (Fall River, Mass.) and junior outfielder Billy Cupelo (Franklin, Mass.), who were both selected to the Academic Honor Roll for the third consecutive year. Holy Cross' 10 total selections to the Academic Honor Roll were the third most in the conference. (more)

Give Another Hoiah!
A proud son recalls with relish a favorite story oft told by his famous father: Babe Ruth is up with two strikes, figuring that the callow Detroit rookie on the mound would never dare throw him a fastball over the plate. Maybe he would toss a teasing curve to lure him into chasing a bad pitch. Ownie Carroll, freshly graduated from Holy Cross in the summer of 1925, could read the Babe's mind. With his usual moxie, Carroll challenges the Babe with a letter-high fastball. (more)

Brendan Akashian went two-for-three in his pro debut.

Akashian Signs With Southern Illinois
Former Holy Cross baseball player Brendan Akashian has signed a professional contract with the Southern Illinois Miners of the Frontier League. The catcher went two-for-three in his first game as a pro on June 15 in the 6-5 win over the Midwest Sliders. As a senior in 2008 he was named to the All-Patriot League first team for the second straight year, while he also earned Holy Cross MVP honors for the second year in a row, receiving the Hop Riopel Award.
