WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior outfielder Billy Cupelo (Franklin, Mass.) has been named the AT&T Crusader of the Week, for competition from April 20-26. Cupelo led the Holy Cross baseball team to a 4-1 record on the week, including three wins over Navy to clinch a spot in the Patriot League Tournament.
Over the course of last week's games, Cupelo went 9-for-19 (.474) with seven runs scored and four runs batted in. During Saturday's doubleheader against Navy, he was 4-for-7 with three runs batted in and four runs scored. Cupelo hit his first triple of the season in Saturday's first game against the Midshipmen, then belted the first home run of his collegiate career during the nightcap. He finished the week with at least one hit in each of the Crusaders' five games, including three straight multiple-hit games to end the week.
On the season, Cupelo is now batting .317 with 18 runs scored and 17 runs batted in. Over the course of his collegiate career, he has a .296 batting average with 30 runs scored and 37 runs batted in.
The Crusaders (21-23 overall, 11-7 Patriot League) return to action on Tuesday, April 28, when they play host to Rhode Island in their final regular season home game at 3:00 p.m.
