Crusaders Top Colgate 74-59 In Regular Season Finale

WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior forward Dave Dudzinski (Elburn, Ill.) recorded 13 points and eight rebounds, to lead the Holy Cross men's basketball team to a 74-59 victory over Colgate at the Hart Center. Dudzinski hit five of eight field goal attempts on the night, in addition to knocking down all three of his free throws. The Crusaders improve to 12-17 overall and 4-10 in the Patriot League with the win, while the Raiders fall to 11-20 on the season and 5-9 in the conference.

Holy Cross hit 50.0 percent of its field goal attempts on the day (24 of 48), including 68.2 percent in the second half (15 of 22). The Crusaders also had 20 assists with only nine turnovers, and held Colgate to 36.8 shooting from the floor (21 of 57).

The game was close early on, and Holy Cross held a 13-12 advantage with 12:39 remaining in the first half. The Raiders scored the next six points to pull in front, and would eventually go up by eight (32-24) with three minutes left before the break. The Crusaders were able to close out the half with a 6-0 spurt, and Colgate held a 32-30 advantage heading into the locker room.

The Raiders scored the first five points of the second half, and would hold a 39-33 lead with 17:24 left to play in regulation. Holy Cross then stepped up its play on both ends of the court, using a 13-0 run over the next five minutes to claim the lead for good. That spurt began a stretch in which the Crusaders hit nine consecutive field goal attempts, with Holy Cross eventually pulling in front 54-41 with 9:48 on the clock. Colgate would get no closer than 10 points the rest of the way, and the Crusaders hit eight of 10 free throws in the final two minutes to secure the victory.

Sophomore guard De'Vaughn Reid (West Orange, N.J.) finished the game with a career-high 12 points, four assists and three rebounds. Senior guard Dee Goens (Alpharetta, Ga.) added 10 points, six assists, four rebounds and two steals, while senior guard Jordan Stevens (Gansevoort, N.Y.) chipped in with 10 points, three assists and two rebounds. The Raiders were led by Murphy Burnatowski, who scored 20 points on seven of 22 shooting from the floor.
