Crusaders Earn 61-42 Victory Over Lehigh
WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior forward Malcolm Miller (Laytonsville, Md.) recorded 14 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals, to lead the Holy Cross men's basketball team to a 61-42 victory over Lehigh at the Hart Center. Miller hit five of eight field goal attempts on the day, including both of his shots from three-point range, and also drained both of his free throws. Holy Cross improves to 9-9 on the season and 3-3 in the Patriot League with the win, while the Mountain Hawks fall to 8-11 overall and 1-5 in the conference.
The Crusaders turned in one of their top defensive performances of the season, holding Lehigh to 29.6 percent shooting from the field (16 of 54) and 23.1 percent shooting from three-point range (three of 13). Holy Cross made 43.6 percent of its shots from the floor (24 of 55), while holding a 36-33 rebounding advantage.
The score was tied at 4-4 early on, before the Mountain Hawks went on a 10-4 run to claim the lead. Lehigh later led by five points (16-11) with 9:47 remaining before the break, when the Crusaders scored 16 straight points over the next eight minutes to take a 27-16 advantage. Holy Cross would lead 27-18 heading into the locker room at halftime.
The Crusaders were still up by nine points (29-20) with 18:30 left to play in regulation, before scoring the next five points to extend their lead to double figures. The Mountain Hawks would get no closer than 11 points the rest of the way, as Holy Cross eventually pulled away for a 19-point victory.
Freshman forward Malachi Alexander (Bowie, Md.) finished the game with 13 points, four rebounds and two assists. Junior guard Justin Burrell (Dumfries, Va.) added 11 points, three rebounds and two assists, while senior forward Dave Dudzinski (Elburn, Ill.) chipped in with 10 points, six rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots. Lehigh was led by Austin Price with 13 points, four rebounds and two assists.
Holy Cross returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 22, when it travels to Lafayette for a 7:00 p.m. game.
