Holy Cross Downs Navy 74-57

WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior forward Dave Dudzinski (Elburn, Ill.) posted the 10th double-double of his collegiate career with 22 points and 10 rebounds, to lead the Holy Cross men's basketball team to a 74-57 victory over Navy at the Hart Center. Following the contest, Dudzinski received the Martin J. O'Malley Award as the most valuable player of the Crusaders' Winter Homecoming game. Holy Cross improves to 17-11 on the season and 11-5 in the Patriot League with the win, while clinching a top-four finish in the conference and a home game in the league quarterfinals. The Midshipmen fall to 9-18 overall and 4-12 in the conference.

Freshman guard Anthony Thompson (Glenn Dale, Md.) finished the game with 17 points, three rebounds and three steals, while sophomore guard Eric Green (Mountain House, Calif.) added 14 points, four rebounds and three assists. The Midshipmen were led by Thurgood Wynn with 14 points, two assists and two steals, all in the second half.

The game was close early on, with Navy holding a 6-5 lead after the first two minutes of play. The Crusaders then went on a 13-1 run over the next eight minutes to claim an 11-point advantage (18-7). A 9-0 spurt a few minutes later would push the Holy Cross advantage to 20 points (32-12), before the Crusaders eventually led 34-19 at halftime.

The Midshipmen were able to trim the margin down to 14 (38-24) early in the second half, before Holy Cross scored the next six points to go back in front by 20 (44-24). The Crusader lead grew to 21 points (50-29) with 10:46 left to play, before Navy went on a 14-4 run to make things interesting. The Midshipmen were able to make it a 10-point game (62-52) with 5:45 remaining, but Holy Cross scored the next eight points to put things away.

The Crusaders made just 39.6 percent of their field goals (21 of 53) on the day, but made up for it with a 45-24 rebounding advantage. Navy connected on 41.2 percent of its shot from the floor (21 of 51).

Holy Cross returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 26, when it travels to Loyola (Md.) for a 7:30 p.m. game.
