WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's basketball team has accepted a bid to play in the 2014 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT), as announced by director of athletics Nathan Pine. The Crusaders will play at Brown in the opening round on Monday, March 17, at 7:00 p.m. This will mark the 25th postseason tournament appearance in school history, and the first since the 2006-2007 season. Holy Cross has previously played in the NCAA Tournament 12 times and the National Invitation Tournament on 12 occasions.
"I am pleased that our men's basketball team has been recognized for their success this season and will have the opportunity to play in the CIT," said Pine. "Our players and coaches have worked very hard throughout the year and I'm glad those efforts will be rewarded with the opportunity to experience postseason play."
Holy Cross stands 19-13 overall this season, and placed third in the Patriot League with a 12-6 mark in conference games. The Crusaders also advanced to the semifinals of the Patriot League Tournament, before falling at American 57-46. Holy Cross' 19 victories this year are its most since going 25-9 in 2006-2007. The Crusaders' 18-12 mark in the regular season was also their best since they had a 22-8 mark entering the Patriot League Tournament in 2006-2007. In addition, Holy Cross' 12 Patriot League victories this year tied for its fourth most ever, behind only the 2002-2003, 2004-2005 and 2006-2007 teams (which all went 13-1).
"I would like to thank the CIT for inviting our team to be involved in their postseason tournament," said head men's basketball coach Milan Brown. "I am extremely proud of our players, managers and staff for their commitment to building a successful culture at Holy Cross. Competing in postseason play is a good step forward for our basketball program."
