
Dan Engelstad is in his third season as an assistant coach at the
College of the Holy Cross in 2012-2013. He has helped lead the
Crusaders to a 16-12 record in Patriot League regular season play
over the last two seasons. Engelstad came to Holy Cross after
serving as an assistant coach at Mount St. Mary’s University
for the previous three years.
During his time at Mount St. Mary’s, Engelstad helped the Mountaineers to an overall record of 54-44 and a 35-19 mark in the Northeast Conference. Mount St. Mary’s also appeared in postseason play twice during that time frame, advancing to the NCAA Tournament in 2008 and the College Insider Tournament in 2009. In 2008, the Mountaineers won the Northeast Conference Tournament title and posted the first NCAA Division I Tournament victory in school history, with a 69-60 win over Coppin State in the opening round.
The coordinator of the Milan Brown Basketball Camp during his time at Mount St. Mary’s, Engelstad is a 2007 graduate of St. Mary’s College (Md.) with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He served as a team captain for the Seahawks, and graduated as the school’s all-time leader with 419 career assists.
Engelstad was also an intern in the Washington Wizards front
office in 2006, and coached the Walt Whitman Varsity Summer League
team in 2005 and 2006.
