Last year, he worked with a team which posted an overall record of 20-14, good for its first 20-win season since 2006-2007. Middlebury also advanced to the Elite Eight of the 2013 NCAA Division III Tournament, after making it to the Sweet Sixteen in 2012.
Popp was previously an assistant coach at Springfield (Mass.) College for two years, while earning his master’s degree in sports management. He helped the Pride to a pair of winning seasons, with the team posting an overall record of 29-24 during his two years on the staff. Popp also has a great deal of experience as a coach at summer basketball camps around the country.
A 2008 graduate of Assumption College with a bachelor’s degree in business, Popp helped the Greyhounds to an overall record of 24-11 and a trip to the NCAA Division II Sweet Sixteen during his senior year. He was a three-year letterwinner at Assumption, after playing his freshman season at the University of Minnesota as a recruited walk-on.
