Holy Cross Football Ranked #25 In The Nation

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross football team has been ranked 25th in the nation by the Sports Network in its 2009 preseason poll for the football championship subdivision. This marks the first time the Crusaders have been ranked by the Sports Network since Sept. 16, 2002, when they stood 23rd in the nation after starting the season 2-0 with victories over Army and Georgetown.

Holy Cross received 382 total points in the poll, to tie for 25th place with Grambling State. The only Crusader opponent in the rankings was Harvard, which received 504 points to rank 23rd. The next-highest ranked team from the Patriot League was Colgate, which placed third among teams also receiving votes with 319 points.

The Crusaders return 15 of 22 starters from their 2008 squad which finished with an overall record of 7-4 and a 5-1 mark in the Patriot League. Holy Cross is scheduled to open the 2009 season when it plays host to Georgetown in a 1:00 p.m. game on Saturday, Sept. 5.
