Holy Cross Football Concludes Spring Drills
WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior linebacker Jimmy Thomas (Severn, Md.) totaled seven tackles and two quarterback sacks, as the Holy Cross football team played its annual spring game at Holy Cross Field. The offense was able to total 191 yards on 57 plays from scrimmage, good for an average of 3.4 yards per play, and did not turn the ball over. The defense posted eight sacks on the day, while only allowing one touchdown on 15 possessions.
Senior quarterback Ryan Taggart (Bedford, Texas) completed 11 of 13 attempts for 102 yards during the game, while junior quarterback Kevin Watson (Belle Mead, N.J.) hit on three of eight passes for 25 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore wide receiver Gerald Mistretta (Brooklyn, N.Y.) totaled six receptions for 36 yards, and sophomore wide out Kyle Toulouse (Arlington, Va.) added three catches for 31 yards and a score. Sophomore tailback Sam Auffant (Hampton, N.H.) led all rushers with 28 yards on 10 carries.
On the defensive side of the ball, junior linebacker Ricky Otis (Cleves, Ohio) recorded seven tackles and one sack, while junior linebacker C.J. Martin (Plano, Texas) added six tackles. Sophomore cornerback Tom Mannix (Kenilworth, N.J.) totaled four tackles and two pass breakups, while senior linebacker James McLaughlin (Hammonton, N.J.) chipped in with a pair of quarterback sacks.
Following the spring game, the annual alumni game was played against former Crusaders. Linebacker Dan Adams (Class of 2007) led the alumni defense with six tackles, while quarterback Tom Ciaccio (Class of 1992) completed three passes for 30 yards, including a two-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Brian Hopkins (Class of 1998).
The Crusaders have now concluded spring practice, and are scheduled to open the 2010 season when they play host to Howard on September 4 at Fitton Field.
