Freddie Santana Receives Presidential Service Award

WORCESTER, Mass. - Six Crusader athletes are among a group of graduating Holy Cross seniors who have been selected as winners of Academic Awards for the 2010-2011 school year. Seniors Courtney Burgess of the women's track and field team, Gael Carter of the women's swimming and diving team, Christina D'Ambrogio of the women's ice hockey team, Matt Mullaney of the men's swimming and diving team, Freddie Santana of the football team and M. Siobhan Straub of the women's track and field team are the athletes who have been honored. These individuals received their awards in a special presentation held in the Dinand Library on Thursday, May 26.

The following are the awards which were received by Holy Cross student-athletes.

The Rev. William F. Hartigan Medal
(awarded for the best essay on a subject in religion)

The John C. Lawlor Medal
(awarded to the outstanding student and athlete throughout the college course)

The Rev. John J. MacDonnell, S.J., Computer Science Award
(awarded for proficiency in computer science)
Christina D'Ambrogio

The John L. Philip Memorial American Sign Language Award
(given to a graduating student who has demonstrated an interest in, and motivation to learn, American Sign Language and to bring that learning to life)
M. Siobhan Straub

The Freeman M. Saltus Prize
(for excellence in writing essays on labor or economics)
Gael Carter

The Varsity Club Norton Prize
(given to an outstanding student athlete)
Courtney Burgess

Presidential Service Award
(for service and contributions to the college and greater Worcester communities)
