McCabe & Macomber Named CoSIDA / Capital One Academic All-District

Mike McCabe
WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior offensive tackle Mike McCabe (Watertown, Conn.) and sophomore placekicker John Macomber (Vienna, Va.), members of the Holy Cross football team, have been selected to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District I squad, it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The team is comprised of players from Division I schools in the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.

McCabe has started all nine of Holy Cross' games so far this season at left tackle, as the leader of an offensive line which has paved the way for the Crusaders to average 20.2 points and 385.3 total yards per game. A two-time All-Patriot League selection, he has played in 45 career games with 34 starts, including a current streak of 32 straight games started. This marks the third straight year McCabe has received Academic All-District honors from CoSIDA. He has also been selected All-Patriot League in each of the last two seasons, making the first team in 2010 and the second team in 2009. In the classroom, McCabe owns a cumulative grade point average of 3.62 with a major in Classics.

Macomber has appeared in eight games for the Crusaders this year, as both a placekicker and kickoff specialist. He has connected on 11 of 13 field goal attempts and 13 of 17 extra points for a total of 46 points scored, while averaging 58.2 yards on 21 kickoffs. Macomber is on pace to break the school single-season record of 12 field goals made (which has been done five times), and currently ranks third in the Patriot League and 17th in the nation in field goals made. In the classroom, Macomber carries a cumulative grade point average of 3.60 with a major in History.

By earning Academic All-District honors, McCabe and Macomber will now be on the ballot for Academic All-America honors. The Capital One Academic All-America team will be announced on Dec. 8.

Holy Cross (4-5 overall, 2-2 Patriot League) returns to action this Saturday, Nov. 12, when it plays host to Lafayette (4-5 overall, 1-2 Patriot League) in a 12:30 p.m. game.
