Jones & Mannix Named To Capital One Academic All-District Team

WORCESTER, Mass. – Sophomore cornerback Sam Jones (Canal Winchester, Onio) and senior strong safety Tom Mannix (Kenilworth, N.J.), members of the Holy Cross football team, have been selected to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District I squad, it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The team is comprised of players from Division I schools in the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.

Jones has started all nine games for the Holy Cross at cornerback so far this year. He has totaled 29 tackles on the season, including 18 solo stops, while breaking up three passes. Over his first two years with the Crusaders, Jones has recorded 31 tackles in 13 career games played. In the classroom, he owns a cumulative grade point average of 3.63 with a major in political science.

Mannix has started all nine games for the Crusaders at strong safety so far this season. He currently leads the team with 76 total tackles and seven pass breakups, and is tied for the team lead with two interceptions. A second team All-Patriot League and Academic All-Patriot League selection in 2011, Mannix was named a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation's William V. Campbell Trophy earlier this year. Over the course of his Holy Cross career, he has totaled 214 tackles, four interceptions, four forced fumbles and 23 pass breakups in 43 games played. In the classroom, Mannix carries a cumulative grade point average of 3.40 with a major in political science.

By earning Academic All-District honors, Jones and Mannix will now be on the ballot for Academic All-America honors. The Capital One Academic All-America team will be announced on Dec. 6.

Holy Cross (1-8 overall, 1-3 Patriot League) returns to action this Saturday, Nov. 10, when it travels to Wagner (6-3 overall, 6-1 Northeast Conference) for a 1:00 p.m. game.
