Sam Jones Named To Academic All-District Team

WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior free safety Sam Jones (Canal Winchester, Ohio), a member of the Holy Cross football team, has been selected to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District I squad, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The team is comprised of players from Division I schools in the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont. This marks the second straight year Jones has been named to the squad.
    
Jones has played in five games for Holy Cross at free safety this year, starting four times. He currently ranks 10th on the team with 28 total tackles, even though he has missed five games due to injury. Jones has also recorded one quarterback sack, three tackles for loss, three quarterback hurries and one pass breakup this season. Over the course of his career with the Crusaders, he has now totaled 61 tackles and four pass breakups in 20 games played. In the classroom, Jones owns a cumulative grade point average of 3.68 with a major in political science.

By earning Academic All-District honors, Jones will now be on the ballot for the Academic All-America team. The Capital One Academic All-America squad will be announced on Dec. 5.

Holy Cross (3-7 overall, 1-2 Patriot League) returns to action this Saturday, Nov. 9, when it travels to Lehigh (6-2 overall, 1-1 Patriot League) for a 12:30 p.m. game.
