Bill McCarthy is in the first year of his second stint on Tom Gilmore’s coaching staff in 2011, serving as the tight ends coach. He returns to Worcester after spending the last year as a defensive assistant coach at Villanova. During his only year on the staff, he helped lead the Wildcats to an overall record of 9-5 and a trip to the NCAA semifinals.
Previously, McCarthy served as Holy Cross’ running backs coach during the 2009 campaign, as the Crusaders won the Patriot League title with an overall record of 9-3.
Prior to his first stint at Holy Cross, he spent the 2008 season as a graduate assistant coach at Springfield College. During his time at Springfield, McCarthy coached the defensive ends and long snappers. He also coordinated the team’s video setup and editing for all games and practices. Previously, McCarthy was a coaching intern at Maine Maritime Academy during the 2007 season. He coached the wide receivers and long snappers, in addition to coordinating the defensive, kickoff and kick return scout teams.
A 2007 Holy Cross graduate, McCarthy earned two letters for the Crusaders as an offensive lineman and long snapper. He was honored as the 2006 WTAG Special Teams Player of the Year, and was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in both 2005 and 2006.
McCarthy resides in Worcester.
