Chris Nugai is in his first year on Tom Gilmore’s coaching staff in 2012, serving as the tight ends coach. He came to Holy Cross after spending six years at Columbia as the running backs coach and special team coordinator.
Nugai was previously a graduate assistant coach at the Connecticut during the 2005 campaign, and coached the running backs at Harvard from 2003-2004. During Nugai’s time at Harvard, he helped direct the career of All-America tailback Clifton Dawson. He also has two years of experience as a head coach, leading the Fitchburg State program in 1996 and 1997.
Nugai’s other coaching stops include time at Columbia (quarterbacks coach / 2002), Tufts (offensive coordinator / 1999-2001), the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (offensive coordinator / 1998), Yale (offensive assistant / 1995), Maine (offensive assistant / 1994) and King’s College (intern assistant / 1993).
A 1992 graduate of Worcester State College, Nugai was a three-year letterwinner at quarterback for the Lancers. He also earned a master’s degree in educational administration from Fitchburg State in 2002.
A native of Waterbury, Conn., Nugai has one son (Martin).
