HAMILTON, N.Y. - Colgate tailback Jamaal Branch rushed for 208 yards and four touchdowns, to lead the Raiders to a 41-7 win over Holy Cross at Andy Kerr Stadium. Colgate forced eight turnovers by Holy Cross, while out-gaining the Crusaders 499 to 278 in total offense.
The Raiders (5-2) opened a 21-0 lead in the first quarter on touchdown runs by Branch of 14, 3 and 21 yards. Colgate quarterback Chris Brown then scored on a 22-yard run for a 28-0 lead in the second quarter. Brown connected with DeWayne Long on a 53-yard scoring pass for a 34-0 Colgate lead at halftime.
Colgate concluded its scoring in the fourth quarter on Branch's two-yard run. Holy Cross (1-6) scored its only touchdown of the game on a three-yard run by freshman quarterback Brian McSharry (Abington, Mass.) with 8:36 remaining.
Brown completed 10 of 22 passes for 160 yards on the day. Holy Cross junior quarterback John O'Neil (White Plains, N.Y.) finished with 12 of 24 passes for 114 yards, while playing only in the first half.
Holy Cross returns to action next Saturday, October 30, when it plays host to Bucknell on Family Weekend. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at Fitton Field.
