Holy Cross Places 16 On League All-Academic Team

WORCESTER, Mass. - Sixteen members of the Holy Cross football team have been selected to the 2006 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, as announced by the league office. Leading the Crusaders were 10 seniors, in defensive back Marc Crosby (Saratoga, Calif.), placekicker Mike DeSantis (Belle Mead, N.J.), offensive lineman Eric Gendron (Warwick, R.I.), tight end Frank Herlihy (West Seneca, N.Y.), defensive lineman Matt Lemire (Worcester, Mass.), offensive lineman Bill McCarthy (Brick, N.J.), defensive lineman Kyle Nelthorpe (Riverside, Calif.), linebacker Chris Nielsen (Center Line, Mich.), defensive back Blake Potolicchio (Bethesda, Md.) and offensive lineman Andrew Schoepfer (Waterford, Conn.).

Other Holy Cross players named to the team were junior defensive lineman Dana Buglione (Vestal, N.Y.), junior linebacker Mark Kelliher (Whitman, Mass.), junior wide receiver Justin Maher (Milford, Conn.), sophomore placekicker Matt Partain (Libertyville, Ill.), junior defensive lineman Adam Sadowski (Tucson, Ariz.) and sophomore offensive lineman Chris Smith (Buffalo, N.Y.).

A total of 106 student-athletes from football teams around the league earned spots on this year's Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a grade point average of 3.20 or better during the fall semester, and be a starter or key reserve on his team.

The Crusaders, who went 7-4 overall and 4-2 in the Patriot League last year, are scheduled to open spring practice on Thursday, March 22.
