WORCESTER, Mass. - Sixteeen members of the Holy Cross football team have been selected to the 2004 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, as announced by the league office. Leading the Crusaders were sophomore quarterback Jarrod Betz (Cincinnati, Ohio), sophomore placekicker Mike DeSantis (Belle Mead, N.J.) and senior tight end Edward Lobb (Denver, Colo.), who all posted grade point averages of 3.50 during the 2004 fall semester.
Other Holy Cross players named to the team were junior running back Gideon Akande (Chicago, Ill.), junior wide receiver Bryan Anderson (Shrewsbury, Mass.), senior running back Matt Bruckner (Western Springs, Ill.), senior offensive lineman Bradley Capon (Ebensburg, Pa.), junior linebacker Matt Dugan (Washington, D.C.), senior linebacker David Fitzpatrick (Long Beach, N.Y.), sophomore defensive back Casey Gough (Hinsdale, Ill.), junior tight end Matt Lane (Marlboro, Mass.), junior linebacker Jesse Loubier (Winthrop, Mass.), senior defensive lineman Nick Nelthorpe (Riverside, Calif.), sophomore linebacker Chris Nielsen (Center Line, Mich.), senior running back Tim O'Hara (San Diego, Calif.) and senior defensive back Nick Tenekedes (Chuluota, Fla.).
A total of 96 student-athletes from football teams around the league earned spots on this year's Academic Honor Roll. To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a grade point average of 3.20 or better during the fall semester, and be awarded a varsity letter.
The Crusaders, who went 3-8 overall and 1-5 in the Patriot League last year, are scheduled to open spring practice on Thursday, March 24. The annual spring game is set for Saturday, April 23.
