WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross head football coach Tom Gilmore and athletic director Richard M. Regan, Jr., have announced the 2006 schedule for the Crusaders. The slate features five home contests, and three games against schools which won or shared a conference title in 2005.
"This year's schedule is going to be very challenging for our football team," said Gilmore. "We will play some tough non-conference games, in addition to taking on our traditional Patriot League rivals. But we look forward to facing top competition, and feel our team will be ready for all the tests this schedule will provide."
The Crusaders will open the season with a trip to Patriot League rival Georgetown on Sept. 2, before playing host to Northeastern in the home opener at Fitton Field on Sept. 9. Holy Cross returns to the road the following week to visit Harvard on Sept. 16, before traveling to Marist on Sept. 23. The Crusaders come back to Worcester on Sept. 30 to play host to Fordham on Homecoming Saturday, and will then battle with 2005 Ivy League champion Brown at Fitton Field on Oct. 7.
Holy Cross hits the road once again for a trip to Dartmouth on Oct. 14, and will then travel to 2005 Patriot League co-champion Lafayette on Oct. 21. The Crusaders come back to Fitton Field to face Lehigh as part of Family Weekend on Oct. 28, and will then take on Bucknell in the home finale on Nov. 4. The final game of the 2006 season comes on Nov. 11, when Holy Cross travels to 2005 Patriot League co-champion Colgate.
The Crusaders are scheduled to open spring practice on Wednesday, March 22. The annual spring game is set for Saturday, April 22.
