WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior quarterback John O'Neil (White Plains, N.Y.) completed 13 of 19 passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns, as the Holy Cross football team played its annual spring game at Fitton Field. The offense was able to total exactly 300 yards on 66 plays from scrimmage, good for an average of 4.5 yards per play. The defense forced a pair of turnovers on the day, recording two interceptions.
Senior tailback Steve Silva (East Providence, R.I.) scored the first touchdown of the game on a four-yard rush. Silva finished the day with 47 rushing yards on 13 attempts, while also catching four passes for 56 yards. The only other scoring in the game came on a pair of touchdown passes by O'Neil. He hit senior wide receiver Bob Turkovich (Bedford, Pa.) with a 40-yard strike, then connected with senior tight end Matt Lane (Marlboro, Mass.) on a 24-yard touchdown pass. Both Turkovich and Lane finished the game with three receptions, as Turkovich totaled 59 yards and Lane had 33 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, junior linebacker Jesse Loubier (Winthrop, Mass.) had a team high 10 tackles, including one sack. Junior linebacker Dan Adams (Springfield, Va.) ranked second on the squad with five tackles, while senior defensive back Kevin Dunn (Gaithersburg, Md.) and sophomore defensive back Kent Flanders (Atlanta, Ga.) both had interceptions.
The Crusaders have now concluded spring practice, and are scheduled to open the 2005 season when they play host to Sacred Heart on September 3.
