Matt Fanning Named Crusader Of The Week
Sept. 4, 2006
WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior wide receiver Matt Fanning (Marlborough, Mass.) has been named the Holiday Inn Express Crusader of the Week, for competition from August 28-September 3. Fanning helped lead the Holy Cross football team to a 26-13 victory at Georgetown on Saturday, in its opening game of the 2006 season.
Against the Hoyas, Fanning caught six passes for a team-best 69 yards, setting new career highs in both categories. Among his receptions was a 10-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Brian McSharry (Abington, Mass.) with just 2.9 seconds left in the first half, to give the Crusaders a 13-0 lead heading into the locker room.
The performance was by far the best of Fanning's collegiate career, as he entered the contest with only one career catch for six yards.
The Crusaders (1-0 overall, 1-0 Patriot League) return to action this Saturday, Sept. 9, when they play host to Northeastern (0-1 overall, 0-0 Atlantic 10) in a 1:00 p.m. game at Fitton Field.
