WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross senior linebacker Dan Adams (Springfield, Va.) has received the Boston Globe Gold Helmet as the Division I-AA New England Player of the Week, for games of Sept. 2. Adams received the award at the New England Football Writers' Luncheon, held at Harvard's Dillon Field House. Last Saturday, Adams led the Crusaders to a 26-13 season-opening victory at Georgetown.
In the Georgetown game, Adams led the team with eight total tackles, including six solo stops and three tackles for loss. He had a fumble recovery early in the third quarter, to set up a field goal which gave the Crusaders a 16-0 lead. Adams also had an interception in the fourth quarter, setting up Holy Cross' final touchdown to put the game away. In addition to winning the Gold Helmet, Adams was also honored as the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week.
Over the course of his career as a Crusader, Adams has now totaled 216 total tackles, 172 solo stops and nine tackles for loss.
Holy Cross (1-0 overall, 1-0 Patriot League) returns to action this Saturday, Sept. 9, when it plays host to Northeastern (0-1 overall, 0-0 Atlantic 10) in a 1:00 p.m. game.
