WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross junior defensive back Casey Gough (Hinsdale, Ill.) has been named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for games of Sept. 17, it was announced by the conference office. On Saturday, Gough scored the first touchdown of his collegiate career as the Crusaders suffered a 31-21 loss against 19th-ranked Harvard.
Gough's touchdown against the Crimson came in the first quarter, when he returned an interception 42 yards to the end zone to give Holy Cross a 7-0 lead. He also made six total tackles in the game, including five solo stops. Through three games on the season, Gough leads the team with two interceptions and 53 interception return yards. He also ranks fourth on the squad with 12 tackles, including 11 solo stops, and has one pass breakup. Over the course of his Holy Cross career, Gough has now totaled 60 tackles, three interceptions and nine pass breakups.
Holy Cross (2-1 overall, 1-0 Patriot League) returns to action this Saturday, Sept. 24, when it travels to sixth-ranked Delaware (2-0 overall) for a 7:00 p.m. game.
