McGuire & Smith Named To ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team

WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior tight end Ryan McGuire (Woburn, Mass.) and junior center Chris Smith (Buffalo, N.Y.), members of the Holy Cross football team, have been selected to the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I squad, it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The team is comprised of players from Division I schools in the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.
On the field, McGuire has caught eight passes this season for 71 yards and a touchdown. Academically, McGuire has a 3.41 grade point average with a major in economics. Smith has started every game, as the leader of an offensive line which has allowed the Crusaders to average 38.6 points and 483.0 yards of total offense per game. In the classroom, Smith has posted a 3.53 grade point average with a double major in economics and accounting.
By earning Academic All-District honors, McGuire and Smith will now be on the ballot for Academic All-America honors. The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America team will be announced on Nov. 29.
Holy Cross (6-3 overall, 3-1 Patriot League) returns to action this Saturday, Nov. 10, when it plays host to Lafayette (5-4 overall, 2-2 Patriot League) in a 12:00 p.m. game at Fitton Field.
