Nielsen Named To CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

WORCESTER, Mass. - Junior Chris Nielsen (Center Line, Mich.), a linebacker on the Holy Cross football team, has been selected as the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I squad, it was announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The team is comprised of players from Division I-A or I-AA schools in the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.

On the field, Nielsen ranks second on the team with 69 total tackles, including 60 solo stops. He currently stands fourth in the nation in solo tackles with an average of 6.7 per game, in addition to posting a team-best eight tackles for loss. Nielsen has also recorded three sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery this season, and was named National Defensive Player of the Week by the Sports Network following the Crusaders' 13-10 victory over Lehigh on Oct. 8. Academically, Nielsen has a 3.43 grade point average with a major in mathematics.

By earning Academic All-District honors, Nielsen will now be on the ballot for Academic All-America honors. The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America team will be announced on Dec. 1.

Holy Cross (5-4 overall, 2-2 Patriot League) returns to action this Saturday, Nov. 12, when it plays host to Lafayette (6-3 overall, 3-1 Patriot League) in a 12:30 p.m. game at Fitton Field.
