Holy Cross Men's Golf Finishes Fourth At Mulekicker Fall Classic
WEST POINT, N.Y. -
Freshman Mike McCarthy (Tolland, Conn.) shot a
team-best 145 and junior co-captain James Widman
(Middlebury, Conn.) had a two-round score of 147 to lead
the Holy Cross men's golf team to a fourth place finish at the
Mulekicker Fall Classic this weekend in West Point, N.Y. McCarthy
finished tied for eighth overall in the weekend competition and
Widman was tied for 13th. The Crusaders finished with 599 strokes
for the two-day event.
Holy Cross was in fourth place after Saturday's first round.
McCarthy paced the Crusaders with a first-round 71 with Widman
following close behind with a 74. Junior Colin Andrade
(Assonet, Mass.) added a 76 on Saturday, followed by
junior Tim McGovern (Oradell, N.J.) (81) and
freshman Steve Zychowski (Mendham, N.J.) (84).
Widman's 73 on Sunday led the team while McCarthy
was close behind with a 74. Andrade and Zychowski
both posted a 75.
Army won the competition with 560 strokes and also had the top
three individual finishers. Hartford, Bryant, Holy Cross and Army's
Gold team rounded out the top five.
The Crusaders are next in action Saturday, Oct. 3 and Sunday, Oct.
4 at the MacDonald Cup hosted by Yale in New Haven, Conn. The start
times for action both days has yet to be announced.
