Men's Golf Team Wins Assumption Shootout
SUTTON, Mass. – Sophomore Roberto Machado (Miami. Fla.) and freshman Tim DiStefano (Albany, N.Y.) tallied tournament low rounds of 70, taking home individual titles as the Holy Cross men’s golf “purple” team placed first out of 10 teams at the Assumption Shootout, held at the Blackstone National Golf Club in Sutton, Mass. Machado posted a career low round while DiStefano posted a top score in his first collegiate action as Holy Cross combined for a score of 294, taking home the Assumption Shootout team title.
The Crusaders had five performers place within the top 10 individual performances Sophomore Steve Zychowski (Mendham, N.J.) followed right behind Machado and DiStefano with a score of 71. Senior team captain Tim McGovern (Oradell, N.J.) tied his career-low round of 74 and placed in a tie for fifth. Fellow senior captain James Widman (Middlebury, Conn.) rounded out Holy Cross’ top performers, placing eighth with a 75.
Ten regional squads competed in the event as Bentley came in second with a score of 304. The Holy Cross “white” team tied for third with American International as both teams marked a score of 304. Completing competition was Le Moyne (305), Assumption (310), Manhattan (310), Saint Rose (310), Franklin Pierce (319) and Anna Maria (347).
Holy Cross continues its 2010 fall slate at the Blue Devil Invitational, hosted by Central Connecticut on Sunday and Monday, Sept. 12-13. The competition will be held at the Wethersfield Country Club in Wethersfield, Conn.
