LAGRANGEVILLE, N.Y. – Holy Cross men's golf 2013 graduate Steve Zychowski (Mendham, N.J.) has qualified to play in the 2013 United States Amateur Championship, which will take place at The Country Club in Brookline, Mass. on August 12-18. This is the third time in the last four years that Zychowski has qualified for the Championship. In 2010 when he made the tournament, he became the first Holy Cross golfer to compete in the U.S. Amateur in over 35 years.
Zychowski earned his spot in the 2013 tournament by placing third at a qualifying event held at the par-72 Links in Union Vale in Lagrangeville, N.Y. on July 18. He finished with a two-round total score of 141 strokes (71-70), which was good for three under par. Zychowski had a strong second round in the qualifier, as he birdied eight holes in the round.
Zychowski, who graduated in May of 2013, led the Crusaders last season with an average 18-hole score of 75.7 strokes. He played in all 11 events during the 2012-2013 season won medalist in the AIC-Adelphi Intercollegiate Classic (Oct. 20-21) and Assumption Shootout (April 16). He earned a spot on the Academic All-Patriot League team and also was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll in 2012-2013.
