Adam Schmidt & Matt Ginn Honored By Atlantic Hockey
WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross sophomore forward Adam Schmidt (Warrington, Pa.) has earned second team All-Atlantic Hockey honors, while freshman goalie Matt Ginn (Lindsey, Ontario) was named to the All-Rookie team. Schmidt is the first Crusader to earn All-League accolades since 2008.
Schmidt led the team with a career-best 18 goals and a career-best 37 points. He was second with a career-best 19 assists. His 18 goals are tied for fourth all-time for a Division I season at the school. This season Schmidt was named the Hockey Commissioners' Association (HCA) National Division I Player of the Month for February and also the Atlantic Hockey Player of the Month. Schmidt led the Crusaders for the month with seven goals, nine assists and 16 points as Holy Cross went 7-0-1. He posted at least one point in all eight games. He tallied one goal and two assists for three points in the 6-1 win versus AIC on Feb. 3, while he posted three goals for his first career hat-trick in the 6-4 victory versus Bentley on Feb. 25. He was named the Atlantic Hockey Player of the Week on Feb. 27 for his five-point performance in the two-game series against Bentley. As a freshman, Schmidt recorded six goals and 15 assists for 21 points as he ranked fifth on the team in points. He was also named the AHA Rookie of the Week once. For his career, he has 24 goals and 34 assists for 58 points in 75 contests.
Ginn, who was named the HCA's National Rookie of the Month for February, was named the Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week three times, Rookie of the Month twice and Goalie of the Week once. He went 17-8-2 this season as his 17 wins are tied for second on the school's Division I single-season list. His 629 saves are sixth all-time for a Division I season, while his 2.42 goals against average is fourth. Ginn went 7-0-1 in the month of February with a 1.61 goals against average and a .937 save percentage. He posted two shutouts on the season.
The Crusaders concluded the season with a 20-15-4 (.564). This is the sixth 20-win season in program history and the first since going 27-10-2 in 2005-2006. The Crusaders' 15-8-4 (.630) Atlantic Hockey record this season was their best since going 19-7-2 (.714) in 2005-2006.
