WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross freshman defenseman Karl Beckman (Okemos, Mich.) has been named the Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Month for February as he posted two goals and eight assists for 10 points. His eight assists led the team for the month. This is the first time that Beckman has earned this honor.
Beckman was named the Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week on Feb. 4, as he posted his first collegiate goal and also tallied one assist for two points as the Crusaders defeated Canisius, 5-1, on Feb. 3. He recorded three assists as the Crusaders defeated UConn, 4-1 on Feb. 15. Beckman has at least one point in the last four games with one goal and four assists for five points during that span. For the season he has two goals and 12 assists for 14 points.
The Crusaders (17-12-3 overall, 13-9-3 Atlantic Hockey) return to action on Friday and Saturday, March 1-2, when they conclude the regular season with a home-and-home series with Army (7-18-5, 7-13-5 AHA). Friday's game is at Tate Rink in West Point, N.Y., while Saturday's game is at the Hart Center in Worcester, Mass. Both games are set to start at 7:00 p.m. Saturday's game will be Senior Night.
The Crusaders are in third place in the Atlantic Hockey standings with two regular season games to play. The Crusaders (29 points) are two points behind second-place Air Force (31 points), and one point in front of fourth-place UConn (28 points). Robert Morris (27 points) is fifth, while Mercyhurst and RIT are tied for sixth with 26 points. The Crusaders can finish as high as second and as low as sixth. The top four teams in the Atlantic Hockey standings earn byes to the best two-out-of-three quarterfinals of the AHA Tournament on March 15-17. The best two-out-of-three Atlantic Hockey first round is on March 8-10.
