Jim Morrissey is in his fourth season as the head coach of theHoly Cross men’s lacrosse team in 2014.

The 14th head coach in the history of the program, Morrissey wasnamed the 2013 Patriot League Coach of the Year. He is the firstHoly Cross men’s lacrosse coach to earn this honor. Morrisseyguided the Crusaders to their most wins since the 1988 season witha 7-8 record. Holy Cross went 2-4 in the Patriot League, markingthe first time in program history that the Crusaders have won twoPatriot League games. Holy Cross defeated Navy for the first timein school history and also defeated Lafayette.

During the 2012 season James Kennedy was named to the TewaaratonAward watch list. This was the first time a Holy Cross men’slacrosse player had been on the watch list. Kennedy was also namedthe National Player of the Week. In addition, 17 Crusaders werenamed 2012 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.

Morrissey served as the interim head coach for theCrusaders’ final nine games of the 2011 campaign. Morrisseyguided Holy Cross to a 2-7 record during that time, including twowins in the team’s final five games. Morrissey had originallyjoined the Crusaders as an assistant coach and recruitingcoordinator in the fall of 2010.

Prior to his time at Holy Cross, Morrissey gained a wealth ofcollegiate coaching experience at a number of different schools. Heserved as an assistant coach at Cornell for the 1998 season, andthen was an assistant coach at Syracuse in 1999 and 2000. Duringhis time with the Orangemen, the team won the NCAA championship in2000 and finished as the NCAA Tournament runner-up in 1999.Morrissey also spent two years as an assistant coach at Hobart in2007 and 2008.

In 2008, Morrissey founded the Finger Lakes Lacrosse Club inSyracuse which had 125 players from over 40 different schooldistricts in the program. He was also the head coach at Marcellus(N.Y.) High School for the 2009 and 2010 seasons, where he led theschool to its first sectional lacrosse win in 10 years, and wasvoted the 2009 OHSL Division II Coach of the Year. Morrissey alsoserved as head coach in the 2009 and 2010 Section III SeniorAll-Star games. In the summer of 2010, he was the offensivecoordinator for the Central Region lacrosse team at the EmpireState Games.

Morrissey played collegiately at Syracuse, where he was atwo-time All-American (in 1995 and 1996) and a member of twonational championship teams (in 1993 and 1995). He served as a teamcaptain as a senior in 1996 and was selected to play in the 1996North-South All-Star game. Morrissey totaled 176 points on 106goals and 70 assists during his collegiate career, ranking secondon the team in scoring as a senior (63 points) and third as ajunior (56 points). Following his time at Syracuse, Morrisseyplayed professionally for the Syracuse Smash of the NationalLacrosse League (1997-1999) and the Rochester Rattlers of MajorLeague Lacrosse (2001-2003).

Morrissey played high school lacrosse under Ron Doctor forSkaneateles High School where he graduated in 1991 as theschool’s all-time leading scorer and the program’sfirst US Lacrosse High School All-American. He was also anAll-State soccer and All-State ice hockey player. Morrissey was atwo-time Empire State Games participant for ice hockey in 1989 and1990. He was presented with the prestigious Italian-American ClubAward as a senior in 1991, which is awarded to the top seniorstudent-athlete in Onondaga County.

As a post-graduate student at Trinity-Pawling Prep School,Morrissey played soccer, hockey and lacrosse. In soccer he was anAll-Western New England soccer midfielder and in lacrosse he wasvoted a US High School All-American as well as Western New EnglandPlayer of the Year. Morrissey was inducted into the Trinity-PawlingAthletic Hall of Fame in September of 2012.

Morrissey earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in PoliticalScience from Syracuse in 1996.
