WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men's rowing team opened its spring season by winning two of three races versus Marist on Lake Quinsigamond on Saturday. The Crusaders won the second varsity eight race, while the freshman eight won its race.
Marist won the varsity eight race with a time of 5:51.3 as the Crusaders tallied a time of 5:52.4. Holy Cross won the second varsity eight race with a time of 6:02.7 as the Red Foxes posted a time of 6:03.4. The Crusaders freshman eight boat placed first with a time of 6:06.2, while the Holy Cross third varsity eight tallied a time of 6:06.7 and the Marist third varsity eight posted a time of 6:22.9.
"While we're disappointed that we didn't come out on top in the varsity race, it was an overall good day for the team," said head coach Todd Pearson. "I am very happy for our freshmen, who earned their first wins as Holy Cross oarsmen. Marist proved to be a very strong team and I give them all the credit for coming to our home water and racing so competitively. After a short break for Easter, we need to get right back to work to make ourselves a better team, from top to bottom."
The Crusaders return to action on Saturday, April 6, when they take on Columbia, Dartmouth and MIT on Lake Quinsigamond.
