
Nicholas Zinter is in his fourth
season as the freshman men’s rowing coach at Holy Cross in
2012-2013. He is a 2005 graduate of Holy Cross and was a member of
the men’s rowing team.
During the 2011-2012 season, the freshman four won a race versus
Georgetown, the freshman eight placed first versus Boston College
and the second freshman eight won a race versus Rutgers. During
the previuos season in 2010-2011, the freshman eight defeated
EARC member Rutgers. In his first year in 2009-2010, at the George
Washington Invitational the freshman eight won two of its three
races with a win over UC San Diego and a first-place finish versus
George Washington and Gonzaga. Also during the season, the
Crusaders earned victories over Bucknell and Rutgers.
Zinter, a Buffalo native, joined the Crusader staff after working
in hospital pharmacy. In his role as assistant coach,
Zinter’s primary duties are to direct the Holy Cross freshman
crews. Additionally, he assists head coach Todd Pearson in the
administration of the overall men’s program.
Coach Zinter has experience coaching junior athletes at West Side
Rowing Club and Canisius High School in Buffalo, N.Y. Zinter led
the WSRC junior men to a second and third place finish at the 2010
Royal Canadian Henley Regatta. While at Canisius in 2008-2009,
Zinter was an assistant coach and helped the Crusaders earn
numerous New York state titles, two Scholastic Rowing Association
(SRAA) National titles, two Canadian Secondary Scholastic (CSSRA)
titles, and a Bronze medal in the lightweight four at the 2009 US
Rowing Youth National Championships.
Zinter began rowing at Canisius High School in Buffalo, N.Y. in
1998. After developing his rowing skills as a high school
lightweight, he chose to complete his career as a coxswain. After
high school, Zinter became a four-year letter winner for the Holy
Cross Crusaders. As the coxswain of the varsity eight, he led the
Crusaders to two Silver medals at the 2003 and 2005 New England
Rowing Championships and a Bronze medal at the 2005 ECAC National
Invitational Regatta. Zinter also won two Patriot Challenge titles
in 2003 and 2005. In 2005, the Crusader varsity eight was ranked
16th in the nation by the US Rowing Collegiate Poll.
Zinter is a 2005 graduate of Holy Cross and holds a Bachelor of
Arts Degree in Psychology. In 2007, he earned his Master of Arts
degree in psychology from Medaille College.
